External hemorrhoids appear as a bump and dark area surrounding the anus. If the lump is tender then it suggests that the hemorrhoid is thrombosed. Any lump should be carefully noted and should not be assumed to be hemorrhoid since there are rare cancers of perianal area.

Symptoms:

The main symptom of the internal hemorrhoid is bleeding, because of location; internal hemorrhoids are not as painful as external. Many do not realize they suffer with internal piles until they see the blood. External hemorrhoids start up from veins that run through the anal area.
